BioArt is the domain finding itself at the intersection of Art, Technology, and Ecology. This MMus Special explores both inspiration from Nature for your creative practice and the ecological (poly)crisis: how you, as a creator, can engage with this complex subject through BioArt and translate it to a broad audience. Various topics such as biomaterials, biomimicry, biodata and non-human perspectives are covered in theory/inspiration and hands-on sessions. The interdisciplinary participants also look at where they can inspire and strengthen each other. In semester 1 and 2, this BioArt course is offered to all HKU (master’s) students with an interest in this subject, who are already involved in Bioart, art and ecology/nature, or who want to get started with it.
Participating is based on your own fascination and perspective.
However, participation also means commitment: as a participant, you commit to joining all 5 sessions.
There are no credits to be earned, but you will gain in-depth knowledge and get to know other students with an interest in art and ecology/nature, as well as the Art & Ecology network within HKU.
You will also be introduced to the HKU BioLab, for example, and there may be opportunities to exhibit your work.

BioArt bevindt zich op het snijvlak van kunst, technologie en ecologie. Deze Special gaat zowel in op inspiratie uit de natuur voor je maakpraktijk, als de ecologische (poly)crisis: hoe je je daar door middel van BioArt als maker mee bezig kunt houden en dit complexe onderwerp naar een breed publiek kan vertalen. Verschillende onderwerpen zoals biomaterialen, biomimicry, biodata en niet-menselijke perspectieven komen langs in theorie/inspiratie- en hands-on sessies. Ook kijken de interdisciplinaire deelnemers waar zij elkaar kunnen inspireren en versterken. In semester 1 en 2 wordt deze BioArt course aangeboden aan alle HKU (master) studenten met een interesse in dit onderwerp, die zich al bezighouden met Bioart, kunst en ecologie/natuur, of daar mee aan de gang willen gaan. Deelname doe je vanuit je eigen fascinatie en overtuiging. Het is echter niet vrijblijvend. Als deelnemer committeer je je aan het doorlopen van het traject van de 5 sessies.
Er zijn dus geen studiepunten te verdienen, maar er is wel verdieping te vinden en je leert andere studenten kennen met interesse in kunst en ecologie/natuur, alsmede het Kunst & Ecologie netwerk binnen HKU.
Zo maak je ook bijvoorbeeld kennis met het HKU BioLab en komen er mogelijk kansen voorbij om je werk te exposeren.
